Acupuncture is an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).  TCM is a complete system of medicine, based on Yin Yang.

Yin Yang are polar opposites that use their relationship to maintain a harmonious balance in the body thus maintaining health.  As such acupuncture utilises this energy to help re-balance and restore the harmony in the body, mind and spirit which aids in optimising health and as such can be used to treat many of the common and unusual ailments.

Other tools which are used to facilitate this process include: nutritional information and advice,  acupressure, moxibustion, cupping, and auricular acupuncture/acupressure and massage.  As such the treatments may include more than just needles depending on the diagnosis and subsequent treatment plan.

What to Expect

During the initial appointment, for which up to 90 minutes is allowed, a detailed consultation will be taken where details of the condition to be treated along with more general information regarding health is used to establish a diagnosis based on the traditions of Chinese Medicine, followed by the 1st treatment.

Subsequent treatments, of up to 45 minutes include a brief consultation to establish any changes in the body, followed by a treatment.

Each treatment will be modified to suit the ever changing flow of energy to match the changes to your health, whilst keeping the goals of the treatment in sight.  The number of needles used varies hugely depending on the treatment plan, with anything from 2 to 20 needles inserted, with a general rule of between 8 and 10.  The needles are retained for approximately 20 minutes with other tools used as needed.

Both during and following treatment most people report a greater sense of relaxation, well-being as well as in increase in energy and an improvement in their sleep in addition to alleviation of the symptoms for which they sought acupuncture.
